Tasty Fall Treats

This year I am taking a Cooking for Wellness class and learning how to make wonderful treats from scratch. It has certainly opened my eyes to a whole new world in the kitchen. I am going to be honest, it is extremely convenient to swing into the grocery store and grab their already made baked goods for whatever event you are heading off too, but nothing beats homemade. I have spent some time putting together all these yummy recipes that are quick, easy, and still taste great!

Oatmeal Orange Zest Scones
4 cups all-purpose flour
1/3 cup sugar
1 3/4 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 sticks of butter, chilled
3 cups rolled oats
1 cup orange zest
2 cups buttermilk

1. Preheat the oven to 375
2. Mix together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt into a large bowl.
3. Cut the cold butter into small pieces and add into the flour bowl.
4. Use either your fingers or a pastry cutter to rub or cut the butter into the mix until it resembles coarse crumbs.
5. Add oats and orange zest, tossing until evenly distributed.
6. Add the buttermilk and stir with a fork until you can gather the dough into a rough ball
7. Sprinkle a board with flour and put dough on it
8. Knead 6 or 7 times
9. Divide the dough into 3 equal parts
10. Pat each part into a circle about 1/2 inch thick
11. Cut each circle into 10 wedges
12. Put the wedges on ungreased baking sheets 1/2 inch apart and bake for about 25 minutes or until the scones are lightly brown

These scones taste just as great as the ones you can pick up at the fair! I am going to take these to Thanksgiving for breakfast and an hoping they'll be a hit!

Stay tuned for more treats! xoxo
